Philanthropy work
During my time at Emporia State I was very active in the philanthropic side of my sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma. I am passionate about serving others and so I applied to be the philanthropy chair and was able to serve my chapter by putting on philanthropy events. I also worked with two other women who were my co chairs. We were unable to put on as many as we would have liked due to there being restrictions with COVID-19. As the chair I was also able to educate current and other members of the greek community about what our philanthropy is and why it is important. Although my chair position was only for a year the chairs who followed me have asked for guidance and assistance with some of the details of the events that they are planning. I was also the Vice President and then President for the communication honor society, Lambda Pi Eta. We were able to support low income children in the Emporia Community.
Our local philanthropy is the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). I was the primary person to put on this event as well as work with the Greater Kansas Chapter of AFSP directly. The event that was planned was the Out of Darkness walk. I coordinated volunteers, contacted local businesses with sponsorship opportunities, planned the events for day of, and successfully executed the event. Along with the walk we had another event where we collected money close to campus for the AFSP.
Other events that I co coordinated included a hygiene as well as other daily use items drive for a local women and children's center. We also partnered with another sorority to create blankets for the same organization.
I co coordinated a pancake feed where proceeded went to March of Dimes.
We collaborated with two other organizations in the greek community to raise money for the June Bug Cancer Foundation.
My senior year I was was the Vice President and then the President of the communication honor society, Lambda Pi Eta. I collaborated with the officer team and organizations in the Emporia community to host 'Bag A Birthday'. The goal of this event was to collect birthday supplies for low income families to assist them in throwing their children a birthday party.
